the acting is also terrible. even when selena gomez got to react to something, it was just bad acting. the same goes for james franco. the way its shot, he just looks like he should be delivering a sermon. it turns out that the film was made by harmony korine, a well-known film director who was already responsible for such classics as 'spring breakers' 'boys don't cry', 'kids'. so it should come as no surprise to learn that his acting skills are not up to scratch.
aside from this, the film is good though. its a simple plot, and the performance of selena gomez actually makes it a good watch. its just that its all so fucking predictable. theres really nothing to be surprised by when its all over. it becomes obvious just how pretty selena gomez is that its never feels like its the lead actors skill that makes the film good. this is quite a shame as someone like cameron diaz, who looks like a seasoned movie veteran would have been a perfect fit for this role. it also makes it hard for the film to be taken seriously, as even high school kids who got their hands on this film will just think its all a joke. indeed, it all feels rather hollow. this is probably one of harmony korine's silliest films. even franco, normally a great catch, turns out to be a weak link.
the scene in the restaurant was too short. theres just not enough to the moment. it would have worked well as a short scene on its own, rather than being included as a final scene. as a result, its not a very satisfying ending to the film. it would have worked better if the four girls had been seen one more time, so the impact of the scene would have had more impact. instead, its a nice and pretty ending, but nothing more. 3d9ccd7d82
